Welcome back one and all and I’ll say this buckle up as we sit down with two of the rising stars of the non league media world.
If you don’t know them or haven’t seen any of their content to date, then where have you been…?!
The guys have been putting out some incredibly interesting and engaging videos covering the world of non-league football. There are stories out there that simply need covering and everyday goings on within the non league world that should have more eyes on them than they currently do.
Well up step Location Football who are doing an incredible job at attracting new fans to the scene as well as providing current fans with some much needed content to sit back and enjoy, something which is vastly lacking as we all know!

Q) What is ‘Location Football’ in one sentence?
Location Football shines a light on the unique and incredible people and clubs in Non-League.
Q) What are your backgrounds in regards to football?
Our background in football is working on Soccer AM the TV show together. I (curly) grew up playing the game too. I followed Bishop’s Stortford FC during my early teens and played semi pro for a brief time. Scott is a Hemel Hempstead lad, who supports the Tudors. We travelled up and down the country with Soccer AM filming at different clubs.
Q) What was it like to work on such an iconic football in Soccer AM, do you feel privileged to have worked on the show and what is your standout moment from that time?
I watched Soccer AM as a kid every weekend without fail. I applied for work experience after watching a segment on the show called office webcam. They had a work ex do something on there, immediately afterwards I sent an email to Sky asking to do work experience. It was an honour to work on the show for 16 years, I met some incredible people and made friends for life. I made sure during my time I took away as many skills I could learn as possible. I worked my way up from runner to social media presenter and did everything in between. There are so many moments that stick out but maybe my biggest was my first proper sit down interview. It was with Di Casio of all people, what an experience that was!!

Q) What made you start creating the content?
We both had a passion for creating content, it took a while for us to figure out exactly what we wanted to create. We enjoy both sides of it, producing an idea, bringing it to life and then editing it for people to see. Scott’s skill set is ridiculous, he’s super talented at everything. We’re a great team because we both have different qualities that help with the channel.

Q) Why did you choose non league football to focus on?
We both grew up watching Non-League football. It’s one of our earliest memories from football. The connection you make with a non-league club is amazing. You can chat to the players, you feel a part of the club. Me and my friends used to love going to home games on a Tuesday night after school. Plus the food is always banging.
Q) Non-league football is very much on the rise, with many turning away from the big leagues due to technology, rising costs or simply lost love of what the matchdays at that level has become. Would you say that now is the perfect time for someone to get involved in supporting a non-league club and also a perfect time for people like yourself to provide high quality content to them?
It’s always a great time to go and support your local non league club. We love non-league for the people, the unique stories each club has and the accessibility you get supporting your local side. We try with our content to shine a light on that and give clubs a platform where they can be seen. We hear fans all the time say this is proper football, no VAR, pint in hand, socialise with your mates and the football is decent too.

Q) What has been your favourite feature to date?
Our channel has grown incredibly over the last 6 months, it’s hard to pin point one feature. The way we film our content has developed over the last 9 months. The one that sticks out is the feature at Assington Stanley, a Step 11 Division 5 side. It is by far our highest performing video and will no doubt be there first one to reach 1,000,000 views. It’s a prime example of that no matter what the level is, viewers resonate with good people. We weren’t sure how the video would be received, but thankfully people really enjoyed it.
Q) How much hard work is creating engaging video content and how much time does it take for you to do?
A lot of time goes into our videos, maybe more than what people may think. We do our research to try and find the most interesting story. Then we build the idea and write a structure to the video. We work really hard to get the opening 15 seconds right. This helps engage the viewer and hopefully means they’ll stick around. The editing of a video can take up from 1-2 days, then we create shorts as well. It’s a huge commitment for 2 people, who have other jobs as well. But there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a video you’ve created, enjoyed by other football fans.

Q) What’s one thing you wish people understood more about creating content?
To be honest I don’t think there is much I wish people understood, maybe the time and effort that goes in. But I don’t have an issue with that at all. It’s our choice to create content, we love doing it. So as long as people enjoy what we’re making, I don’t really need them to understand anything else.
Q) What would you say is your ultimate end goal with the brand?
It’s hard to set goals, we haven’t really set any. It would be great to be the place where Non-League fans go for their Non-League content, whoever they support. If we can become the biggest channel for that in the UK, then that would be pretty cool.
Growth is really important, we’d love to see the community increase and bring more football fans to the channel. You don’t have to be a fan of specific club to enjoy our channel, hopefully the stories are interesting for all football fans. The main goal is to keep shining a light on Non-League football, build the audience and hopefully see more fans support their local club. Non-League is simply brilliant.

Q) Who is the best non league player you have seen live?
This is a tough one because we’ve seen so many quality players across so many divisions, I’ll pick out a few that caught out eye. Joe Felix who was at Dulwich Hamlet at the time, nippy and skilful (he’s now at York) Ollie Tanner at Lewes was incredible just google his goals! He’s in the championship with Cardiff. Special mention to Chris Conn-Clarke as well quality player!
Q) To date which individual or club have you been most impressed with?
Farnham town are doing amazing work, Harry Hugo’s philosophy on how to generate income is incredible. They’ve been so welcoming to us and are climbing the divisions. Yes, they’ve had financial backing but the way they engage with fans and the though behind the projects is super impressive. As for a player, our guy Mo Faal. We sponsored him a few seasons ago, he is a pure goal machine with another amazing story from playing in Italy to Bolton and Non-League.
Q) From idea to the video going live what is the average time frame?
It varies really me and Scott will have a sit down during the week, when we get time. We both have busy schedules outside of the channel, but we usually float some ideas and stories we’ve found and can write the video in a day, we film on a matchday, then turn it around in a day maybe slightly longer. If we filmed on a Saturday I’ll have the video ready by Tuesday to go out the next Sunday. Then I’ll edit loads of short form content to put out as well.
Q) Will we see some branded merch in the future?
As for merch, it’s not something we’ve really thought about. We created our own kits for a trial match we held at the end of last season! That was pretty cool. If there was a want for it then it’s something we might look into, but that was never the goal when we started. We just love non-league and want to share our content with football fans around the World and spread the word of the fantastic people and clubs we have at multiple different levels.
Q) If you could cover one person/club/event in the future what would it be and why?
It’s hard to pick one club we’d like to feature on the channel. There are so many amazing stories that we hope we can eventually get round and cover them all. We’re looking at Non-League clubs abroad as well, which would be really cool. The beauty of what we do is that there are always exciting, interesting people to cover in Non-League. We just have to find them.
Q) Do you take requests of where to go next and if so, how can someone get in touch with you?
Our DMS are always open for people requesting their club, we do try our best to visit them all. We do have a plan and a schedule, but we welcome any football fans to send us a message on instagram, X, TikTok or YouTube!

————————————————————————–
Thanks to the guys for taking time out of what is fast becoming an incredibly busy schedule. I myself am a massive fan of their page and genuinely do encourage you all to head over there and subscribe to their channel (click on the image above).
They make quality videos, something which is very hard to do on a consistent basis, yet they both seem to make it look so “EASY EASY” I am so sorry….
Anyway – I am really excited to see what the next year has in store for the pair and will be keeping tabs on them and their work. High quality non-league football content is in short supply and ‘Location Football’ is very much filling a big void, for me and many others already.
Until next time!
