Welcome back one and all and I’ll say this buckle up as we sit down with two of the rising stars of the non league media world.

If you don’t know them or haven’t seen any of their content to date, then where have you been…?!

The guys have been putting out some incredibly interesting and engaging videos covering the world of non-league football. There are stories out there that simply need covering and everyday goings on within the non league world that should have more eyes on them than they currently do.

Well up step Location Football who are doing an incredible job at attracting new fans to the scene as well as providing current fans with some much needed content to sit back and enjoy, something which is vastly lacking as we all know!

Anyway, you guys aren’t here to listen to me rattle on, let’s crack on and hear from the duo!

Location Football shines a light on the unique and incredible people and clubs in Non-League.

Our background in football is working on Soccer AM the TV show together. I (curly) grew up playing the game too. I followed Bishop’s Stortford FC during my early teens and played semi pro for a brief time. Scott is a Hemel Hempstead lad, who supports the Tudors. We travelled up and down the country with Soccer AM filming at different clubs.

We both had a passion for creating content, it took a while for us to figure out exactly what we wanted to create. We enjoy both sides of it, producing an idea, bringing it to life and then editing it for people to see. Scott’s skill set is ridiculous, he’s super talented at everything. We’re a great team because we both have different qualities that help with the channel.

We both grew up watching Non-League football. It’s one of our earliest memories from football. The connection you make with a non-league club is amazing. You can chat to the players, you feel a part of the club. Me and my friends used to love going to home games on a Tuesday night after school. Plus the food is always banging.

Our channel has grown incredibly over the last 6 months, it’s hard to pin point one feature. The way we film our content has developed over the last 9 months. The one that sticks out is the feature at Assington Stanley, a Step 11 Division 5 side. It is by far our highest performing video and will no doubt be there first one to reach 1,000,000 views. It’s a prime example of that no matter what the level is, viewers resonate with good people. We weren’t sure how the video would be received, but thankfully people really enjoyed it.

A lot of time goes into our videos, maybe more than what people may think. We do our research to try and find the most interesting story. Then we build the idea and write a structure to the video. We work really hard to get the opening 15 seconds right. This helps engage the viewer and hopefully means they’ll stick around. The editing of a video can take up from 1-2 days, then we create shorts as well. It’s a huge commitment for 2 people, who have other jobs as well. But there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a video you’ve created, enjoyed by other football fans.

To be honest I don’t think there is much I wish people understood, maybe the time and effort that goes in. But I don’t have an issue with that at all. It’s our choice to create content, we love doing it. So as long as people enjoy what we’re making, I don’t really need them to understand anything else.

It’s hard to set goals, we haven’t really set any. It would be great to be the place where Non-League fans go for their Non-League content, whoever they support. If we can become the biggest channel for that in the UK, then that would be pretty cool.

Growth is really important, we’d love to see the community increase and bring more football fans to the channel. You don’t have to be a fan of specific club to enjoy our channel, hopefully the stories are interesting for all football fans. The main goal is to keep shining a light on Non-League football, build the audience and hopefully see more fans support their local club. Non-League is simply brilliant.

This is a tough one because we’ve seen so many quality players across so many divisions, I’ll pick out a few that caught out eye. Joe Felix who was at Dulwich Hamlet at the time, nippy and skilful (he’s now at York) Ollie Tanner at Lewes was incredible just google his goals! He’s in the championship with Cardiff. Special mention to Chris Conn-Clarke as well quality player!

Farnham town are doing amazing work, Harry Hugo’s philosophy on how to generate income is incredible. They’ve been so welcoming to us and are climbing the divisions. Yes, they’ve had financial backing but the way they engage with fans and the though behind the projects is super impressive. As for a player, our guy Mo Faal. We sponsored him a few seasons ago, he is a pure goal machine with another amazing story from playing in Italy to Bolton and Non-League.

It varies really me and Scott will have a sit down during the week, when we get time. We both have busy schedules outside of the channel, but we usually float some ideas and stories we’ve found and can write the video in a day, we film on a matchday, then turn it around in a day maybe slightly longer. If we filmed on a Saturday I’ll have the video ready by Tuesday to go out the next Sunday. Then I’ll edit loads of short form content to put out as well.

As for merch, it’s not something we’ve really thought about. We created our own kits for a trial match we held at the end of last season! That was pretty cool. If there was a want for it then it’s something we might look into, but that was never the goal when we started. We just love non-league and want to share our content with football fans around the World and spread the word of the fantastic people and clubs we have at multiple different levels.

Our DMS are always open for people requesting their club, we do try our best to visit them all. We do have a plan and a schedule, but we welcome any football fans to send us a message on instagram, X, TikTok or YouTube!
