Welcome back to another TTTONLF meets, we are sitting down with Oxford City Analyst Samuel Collyer alongside that, Sam also produces Non-league Content for this social media channel, some of which we will highlight below.
I am a personal fan of the work Sam is doing and I have every faith that come the end of this interview you will see why and also become a future fan yourself!
Shall we…
Name – Samuel Collyer
Age – 20
Favourite team – Woking FC
Occupation – Non-League Football content creator/analyst
Thing I love – sense of community around a football club
Pet hate – linesman’s delaying putting the flag up even when VAR isn’t in use 😅
Q) What is your first memory of football..?
Me and my dad going to watch woking on the opening day of the season, it was away to Sutton and we won 5-0, from that point onwards I will was hooked
Q) Why did you decide to start creating content around football?
Originally it begun just giving my opinion online about Woking, and I always really liked the tactical side of the game so it slowly stemmed into creating tactical analysis content and threads
Q) Football analysis is a growing part of the game, what about it are you attracted to?
I’ve always enjoyed breaking down the tactical side of football, and the in depth side of the game that is utilised to give teams the slightest of advantages
Q) Does it frustrate you when you see/hear fan comments that you know are incorrect (based on what you know through your role)?
I wouldn’t say it frustrates me as i know eventually everything will work out for the best, but I do find it funny at times, and of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion which I respect
Q) What is your favourite moment working in analysis for Oxford city?
Recently being invited down to DAZN studios to shoot some content with them, meeting John Terry whilst down there.

Q) Outside of your analyst role you create content online, what kind of content do you create?
I like to do tactical breakdowns and analysis of certain players and teams in the National League on my X account
Q) How does it feel when people get in touch to say how much they enjoy your work?
It feels amazing honestly, compliments and appreciation for what you do is what makes it all worth while so to see that something I create is enjoyed by others is a really good feeling
Q) You recently hosted a podcast with Marc White and Rich from Dorking/Bunch of Amateurs, how was that for you?
The pod was a great experience, I really enjoyed speaking to Marc who was very complimentary, and rich as well, as I’m a huge fan of his work and watch every episode of the docuseries he makes.

Q) Do you have a role model that you would love to work with or work for later in your career?
One day working on something with Ellis Platten would be quiet cool and a new experience, albeit optimistic, and potentially doing some work for Woking too as Thats a personal dream of mine

Q) What does non league football mean to you?
It means everything to me, I grew up from the age of six going with my dad and grandad, and I wouldn’t change it for a thing. The sense of community and enjoyment I get from watching non league is like nothing else!
Q) What tools do you recommend to aspiring analysts?
In terms of tools to aspire, it’s hard to pick something specific, I promise this isn’t an ad but paying £4 a month for twitter premium took my work to another level, as it allowed me to write more words on analysis threads and go into more depth

Q) Who would your dream club to work for be and why?
Dream club would be Woking, would be a childhood dream of mine to play even a small part in helping them get to the EFL for the first time!
Q) How does it personally feel when you get praised for the work you do?
Getting praised for work is what makes it all worth while, the feeling never gets old, it’s what really keeps me going and pushes me to be better at what I do
Q) What is one thing you’d like to see improved for non league football in the next 10 years?
One thing I’d like improved is more of a rule, and that’s the 3 promotion spots into the EFL, the quality trapped in this division is insane given how tough it is to get promoted
————————————————————————–
Thanks to Sam for being so open and honest with my questions & also for taking the time out of his busy schedule!
I personally love the visual elements of his work in how he presents the player profile analysis and with his most recent piece on Ebbsfleet showcases that everything that is created is fully thought out and has a plan to it and is not just a clickbait article.
I will be keeping an eye out for all of his future work for sure and I recommend you do the same!
Until next time!
