Welcome back to another TTTONLF meets, this time we are sitting down with Harry who is hitting the ground running by getting hands on experience at Tamworth showcasing his desire and talents to be involved and part of the football world aged just 16!
Let’s get stuck in to the questions and find out how it all started for Harry!
Name – Harry Owen
Age – 16
Favourite Team – Aston Villa
Occupation – Tamworth FC (Graphic Designer & Photographer)
Thing I love about football – The Passion
Could you begin by telling us a little about your background and how you first became involved in non-league football?
I first became involved in Tamworth last season where i emailed about possibly taking photos and they took a chance on me i showed them my graphics work and they loved then gave me the role to lead the graphic design for there social media channels.

What was the starting point that led you into combining your creative skills with football—was it design, photography, or journalism that came first?
The starting point was probably becoming the Graphic Designer, it was a role i enjoyed – i then thought, what if i could use my own images in my designs. So i started up photography alongside this, a role which i enjoy a lot also. .
You hold several roles within non-league football, including graphic designer and photographer at Tamworth, freelance photographer at Hednesford Town, and contributor to the Non-League Paper. How did each of those opportunities arise?
I obviously had my role at Tamworth but just wanted to keep expanding my portfolio. I emailed the club asking for a press pass for a game then i have been called back many times. The opportunity came through an amazing person at Hednesford Town called Penny who got a call from the NLP needing photos for a game in Coleshill so i headed up there took the photos sent them through on the deadline and i was in the paper the next day. I then had calls from them regularly to cover Hednesford Town clubs.

When balancing multiple roles across different clubs and platforms, how do you manage your time and priorities?
I believe its about communication if i need to be at a Hednesford game for the NLP i’ll make sure all the templates are ready for the media team at Tamworth to sort out.
Your graphics for Tamworth have been widely praised for their quality and visual appeal. What is your creative process when producing these materials?
My visual process is just looking through other designs seeing what i can see or take out of there’s to add to my own there’s lot of aspects to it.
I believe an idea will come quickly and i just run away with it if i hit a block i’ll leave it and come back to it.

How has the feedback from supporters, players, and the wider non-league community influenced your design work?
Definitely influenced me when you have people recognise the work you do especially people in the club and the fans its always good to take feedback on as well but yeah its great to have that praise.
Could you share a particular moment or image from your photography that you feel captures the spirit of non-league football best?
Most likely when i did the game for NLP for Hednesford vs Coleshill when nearly 300 Hednesford town fans travelled and all the players shaking the fans hands after i really think that captures the spirit of non league.

Do you feel your three different roles—design, photography, and journalism—complement one another? If so, in what ways?
Photography and Graphic Design definitely complement themselves as i can use images from my photography in my graphics work.
What are some of the main challenges you’ve faced in building recognition for your work within non-league circles?
Main challenges are just hitting deadlines to create graphics and send photos.
How do you keep your creative work fresh and innovative when producing regular content across multiple platforms?
New Ideas. Thinking differently.
Looking ahead, how would you like to see your role in non-league football develop further?
I would like to be one of the top graphic designers in the league also continue to put my photos in the NLP.

Finally, what advice would you give to other creatives who might wish to contribute their skills to football at non-league level?
Advice i would give is push limits email people connect, network and don’t stop until you get results someone will take a chance. Make sure your portfolio is half decent and just fly in those inboxes.

This interview yet again showcased to me once again that age is just a number.
It also reiterated that if you want to do something in life then all you have to do is reach out to someone and ask. Volunteering your time doesn’t feel like work if you are loving what you are doing and can prove to be invaluable if you see yourself seeking a career in football later down the line.
Until next time!
